Psalm 21 - Oxygen In A New Recording Location

Hello, and welcome to a very special episode of Tabernacle Talk. I'm actually recording this on Easter Sunday in the great outdoors. I am out in the farm country in Maryland and kind of over by Boonesboro.

And so if there's something different about the sound today, if you are watching the video portion of this podcast and you notice something a little bit different, it is because I am in the great outdoors.

Lord willing, even though there's some birds chirping and occasional cars going past, I think this particular microphone that I have normally holds all of that up pretty well. And so I shouldn't have any difficulties with that. Let's dive right in.

I am not entirely sure how much phone battery that I have. So we are going to get right into it today. We are in Psalm 21.

And the inscription for this Psalm says this, for the choir director, a Psalm of David says. Let's listen to a part of the podcast.

Here in these verses, we see, especially because I'm recording it on Easter, I can't help but think about the incredible truths that this talks about with Jesus.

That he is the one who rejoices in the victory, in the resurrection, in the salvation that God brought. That Jesus' desire was that he would have his disciples and that they would be one just as he and the Father are one.

And through Jesus' sacrifice, God, the Holy Spirit, has made us all one in Christ. As 1 Corinthians 12 states, as Ephesians 4 states, among other places, that we are now one with all other believers who have ever believed on Christ Jesus.

That Jesus' desire and his request for God to receive his Spirit, even on the cross, that God did that. And now he is with his Father, inseparable forevermore.

And what an incredible thing that they are from verse 2, that God has given Jesus his heart's desire. He's not denied the request of his lips. When Jesus said, it is finished, the Father completely accepted that request.

That God will never hold us accountable for the sins that we have committed to Jesus. That we have said, Jesus, I need your forgiveness. I need your restitution.

And Jesus has given that to us. That God has fully followed what Jesus has requested. Verse number three, you meet him with rich blessings.

You place a crown of pure gold on his head. Here it's artistic license. It's not literally a crown of pure gold that would be incredibly heavy.

It would be very difficult to actually wear that. But the thought being communicated here is you have given him the highest honors.

And I think of Philippians 2 in verse 10 and 11, wherefore God also has highly exalted him and given him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus, every knee will bow of things in heaven and earth and under the earth, and

every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father. Verse number four, he asked you for life and you gave it to him length of days forever and ever. I love Isaiah 53.

I might be playing it dangerous here, but I'm going to turn over to Isaiah 53. Verse number 10, yet Yahweh was pleased to crush him, Jesus severely. When you make him a guilt offering, he will see his descendants.

He will prolong his days, and by his hand, Yahweh's pleasure will be accomplished. After his anguish, he will see light and be satisfied. By his knowledge, my righteous servant will justify many, and he will carry their iniquities.

Therefore, I will give him the many as a portion, and he will receive the mighty as spoil, because he willingly submitted to death and was counted among the rebels, yet he bore the sin of many and interceded for the rebels.

That God has given Jesus an everlasting kingdom that will never end, and we will reign and rule with him as Revelation 4 and 5 state, that we are priests in his kingdom, that he is our great high priest and we serve under him.

He is our king, and yet we are incredibly promised a kingdom under him. Verse number 5, His glory is great through your victory. You confer majesty and splendor on him.

You give him blessings forever. You cheer him with joy in your presence. This reminds me of Psalm 16 that we were in I think beginning of last week.

That in God's presence, there is fullness of joy. There is abundant joy. And that's what Jesus enjoys.

And that is what he promises to all of his people, that anyone that comes to him, if they die or if the Lord returns, that we will be in his presence with abundant joy. It says, for the king relies on Yahweh through the faithful love.

That's that chesed, the steadfast love, covenant love of the Most High. He is not shaken. Jesus was constantly praying to the Father.

As you read all throughout the Gospels, he was going to God over and over and over again. He was asking for strength. He was asking for God to work.

He was asking for God to provide peace. He was asking for God's will to be done. He was asking for his needs to be met.

And if Jesus could do that, why not you? Why don't you ask God to help you in that way? In verses 8 through 12, it's kind of a jarring thing to us that we go, man, God, like there's this justice here.

There's this burning. There's this condemnation of the enemies. How could a loving God do that?

And here it's, especially as you take it with the rest of scripture, it is those that are against God, those that are against. His, here His Messiah, the people that are seeking to do harm.

Verse 11, though they intend to harm you and devise a wicked plan, they will not prevail. Verse number eight, the enemies, those that hate God. It's not just, hey, here are people that are kind of indifferent.

These are the enemies of God. And to be against life is to invite death on oneself. You can't abandon oxygen.

You can't be anti-oxygen and expect to be able to breathe. In just the same way, God is the source of life. And to be against the source of life is to invite destruction onto our souls.

I would encourage you, take a look at your life. Take a look at where you are with Jesus. Have you turned to.

Him as your one and only? Have you turned to. Him as the Lord of your life?

Have you identified with. Him so that everything that is. His is now yours?

Or are you against God? Have you been one that you are rejecting oxygen and expecting to breathe? Are you rejecting the source of life and expecting to live, or expecting to live forever?

I'd encourage you, don't do that. God is so worthy and. He is a good, good Father to us.

I think of James 1.17, every good gift and every perfect gift comes down from above and comes from the Father of lights with whom there is no variableness or shadow of turning. He doesn't change like us. He's not fickle like us.

He is consistent. He is steady. And so we can rely on.

Him. He's the one who gives us good gifts. I think of Ephesians Chapter 1 where it says that we are seated, blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has seated us in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

He chose us in. Him before the foundation of the world so that we would be holy and without blame before. Him in love.

Verse 13, be exalted, Yahweh, in your strength. We will sing and praise in your might. Our relationship with God is not reliant on if we are strong.

It's not reliant on if we are mighty. It's about. His strength.

It's about. His might and us choosing to worship. Him, to exalt.

Him, to lift. Him up, to declare. Him to others, to exalt.

Him, to lift. Him up in our own life, to sing and praise to. Him.

I've mentioned often, it's a great thing to praise the Lord. It's a great thing to sing to God.

It doesn't matter if you've got a great voice or a terrible voice, if you do it at the top of your lungs or if you're doing it really quietly in your heart. God loves it. It is you worshiping.

Him, telling. Him that. He is worthy of everything that you could bring.

He is worthy of all of it. So will you bring it to. Him?

There is this wonderful King, the King who ministers to us, who gives to us, who gives us majesty and splendor, a crown, life forever, blessings, joy, covenant, faithful love. And He invites you into that relationship.

So, hope that Psalm 21 would be an encouragement to you. It's not one, truthfully, that I was incredibly familiar with before studying it today. And hope that it would challenge you because of how good God is, because of how great.

He is. We ought to follow. Him wholeheartedly.

Today, are you one that embraces the oxygen, that breathes it in, that thanks the Lord for. His life that. He gives and the kind of life that.

He gives? Or are you indifferent to. His oxygen?

Are you against. His way in the world? Are you against.

His life? Today, choose to worship, to praise, to sing, to exalt. Him, to lift.

Him up in your heart, in your words, in your actions. Show people the King that you worship. Thanks for tuning in today to this special edition.
